Food For Thought

Question:  Besides being big sports stars, what do LeBron Jame, Peyton Manning, Serena Williams and Sidney Crosby all have in common?

Answer:  They are all featured in product endorsements for foods and drinks of questionable nutritional value.

Are these stars sending mixed messages to our kids?  Check out this link  Junk Food Ads .  It's "food for thought".

  1. This was interesting to read. I've heard a bit about this topic before but this is a good example. I feel people should have the right to choose what they want with their live. There would then be the debate about if the person is in their right mind set to make this decision. Others should read this to broaden their knowledge and because it's interesting.

  2. With athletes promoting junk food, it' giving the younger audience the wrong impression and they are thinking that "hey, if I drink Gatorade, I'll be strong and will be able to run as fast as them". If you're an athlete, you shouldn't be drinking sugar drinks. Especially when you could be a role model for a little girl/boy. I think other people especially athletes should read this because its very interesting. I found the whole thing interesting.

  3. Fun fact, bacon was never a staple for a healthy breakfast. Bacon companies needed a way to sell their bacon. So they advertised saying that 4 out of 5 doctors recommend bacon to be part of a hearty breakfast.

  4. This is a popular topic when discussing the futures for our children and their nutritional needs. The impacts of celebrities on young people's life style choices are evident and often discussed. The influence these people have on younger people is obviously working, otherwise the endorsements would have stopped. When products are paired with a favored celebrity, the product has a higher chance of becoming favored, as we learned in psychology class. This is classical conditioning at it's finest with commercials and advertisements. this is an interesting topic and a very broad one, which is why I would recommend this for other's to read.
